1. The service
AppAlly is a digital accountability tool that helps adults manage their own screen time through chosen ally relationships. Requesters voluntarily restrict access to selected apps and route unlock requests through a trusted Ally. The Ally approves or denies those requests. Sessions auto-expire and apps re-lock.
AppAlly uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks, including FamilyControls and ManagedSettings, under Apple's individual authorization model. These tools can shield selected apps and websites on your device. You remain responsible for choosing your settings, maintaining device access, and using emergency override options appropriately.
AppAlly is for adults only. It is not a parental control tool, a child-monitoring tool, or an employer-mandated monitoring tool. It must not be installed or configured on the device of a minor, an employee under coercion, or any person who has not chosen the accountability arrangement for themselves.
2. Eligibility
- You must be at least 18 years old to use AppAlly as a Requester or Ally.
- You must provide accurate information when creating your account.
- One person may not create multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions or subscription limits.
- By creating an account you confirm that you are voluntarily entering the accountability arrangement with full understanding of how it works.
3. Requester responsibilities
- You are voluntarily choosing to restrict your own app access.
- AppAlly is a tool to support habits you want to build. It is not a substitute for professional mental health support, addiction treatment, or medical care.
- Emergency overrides are a safety valve. Misuse to bypass restrictions undermines the purpose of the service.
- You are responsible for communicating clearly with your Ally about your goals and boundaries.
- You may unpair from an Ally at any time, switch to the AI Ally, or delete your account.
4. Ally responsibilities
- You are voluntarily agreeing to help a Requester manage their screen time.
- You should approve or deny requests in good faith and in accordance with your agreement with the Requester.
- You are not liable for any outcome arising from an access decision you make.
- AppAlly is always free for Allies. No subscription or payment is required to participate as an Ally.
- You agree not to use AppAlly to harass, coerce, manipulate, or control the Requester.
5. AI Ally
The AI Ally is an on-device decision engine that evaluates access requests against behavioral signals such as request timing, reason quality, recent denials, and recovery streaks. It is not a chatbot or a medical professional. Decisions are made by deterministic rules running on your device. The AI Ally's denials are not professional advice. If the AI Ally's behavior conflicts with guidance from your doctor, therapist, or other professional, follow your professional's guidance.
6. Subscriptions and billing
AppAlly offers paid plans for Requesters:
- AI Ally ($2.99 per month): AI-powered access decisions only.
- Human Ally ($4.99 per month): One paired human accountability partner, with AI Ally as a fallback when the human is unavailable.
- Lifetime ($79.99 one-time): Unlimited allies, advanced analytics, and all future updates.
All subscriptions are billed through Apple's App Store. You may cancel at any time through your Apple ID subscription settings (iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No partial refunds are issued unless required by applicable law.
A 7-day free trial may be available to new Requesters on the Human Ally plan. Trials automatically convert to a paid plan if not cancelled before expiry. You will be notified before the trial converts.
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
7. Emergency overrides
Emergency overrides allow a Requester to bypass restrictions immediately. Overrides are limited by cooldowns and are intended only for urgent situations. AppAlly does not charge separately for overrides.
8. Acceptable use
- Do not use AppAlly to harass, coerce, surveil, or control another person.
- Do not install or configure AppAlly on the device of a minor or any person who has not chosen the arrangement for themselves.
- Do not use AppAlly in any employment or coercive relationship where the user has not freely consented.
- Do not attempt to reverse-engineer, modify, decompile, or distribute the app or its components.
- Do not use the service in any way that violates applicable law.
- Do not create fake pairing relationships or abuse the invite code system.
- Do not impose an unreasonable load on our infrastructure.
9. Intellectual property
AppAlly and all associated content, trademarks, designs, source code, and software are owned by or licensed to AppAlly. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app on your personal iOS devices in accordance with these Terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of any part of the service.
10. Disclaimers
AppAlly is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not warrant that:
- The service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times.
- Auto re-lock via Apple's DeviceActivityMonitor will fire at the exact moment a session ends (Apple schedules these on a best-effort basis).
- The accountability system will produce any particular outcome for your screen-time habits.
AppAlly is a habit-support tool, not a medical device, therapeutic service, or addiction treatment program. If you are struggling with compulsive behavior, please seek professional support. AppAlly is most effective when used alongside, not instead of, professional care.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, AppAlly and its creators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service. Our total aggregate liability for direct claims is limited to the amount you paid AppAlly in the 12 months preceding the claim.
12. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. You may delete your account at any time from Settings or by emailing privacy@appally.app. Upon termination, locally stored data is cleared from your device. Any outstanding Apple subscription obligations survive termination and must be cancelled separately through your Apple ID.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or AppAlly shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and notify you within the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
